Container shipments with regular routes via the Mediterranean Sea, Suez Canal, and Red Sea to reach major Asian ports are being rerouted via West Africa and around the southern tip of South Africa. This longer route adds two to three weeks of travel time to the Port of Manila and avoids drone and missile attacks by Yemeni Houthis in the Red Sea.

Expect delays for your Balikbayan Box shipments that departed in December, with an additional two to three weeks added to the original eight-week transit time to the Port of Manila.
